Purpose of the invention: To develop airborne direction finding equipment by means of radio.
Brief history of how it came to exist: It all started in 1881 he first wanted to start his invention because he made an attempt to find the bullet that was in the body of James Garfield. They use electromagnetic induction to detect metal. Early machines were not very good because they used a lot of battery power, and worked on a very certain degree. For James Garfield the attempt was unsuccessful because he was lying on a metal bed and it confused the detectors.
